I’m thrilled that I’ll have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students here in New Westminster. With the news last week of a new high school coming to the Royal city‎, it’s an exciting time to be a part of this school district and I’m looking forward to working with the rest of the trustees.

I’ve had so many wonderful people supporting me, but even with that I wasn’t sure we could pull this off. When you consider that all 3 levels of government in this city did everything they could to support the other candidate, I think this outcome is a testament to the fact that this city is ready for a change and a balance of opinion.

There are so many people I need to thank, starting with my husband Farhan‎ who first encouraged me to get involved with the students of this city through the Hyack football program. Casey Cook really helped guide me through my first experience through the political process. Others include Tej Kainth, Sue Dhaliwal, Sukh Sidhu, Marie Jang, Julie Morales, Anna Kouwenberg, Leona Green, Brent Atkinson, Meranda Thiessen, Ryan Leslie, Nicole Stel, Adam Isfeld, Shammi Ram-Ditta and Paul Fuoco. This is a real win for them and so many others who have children in the school system.

I would also like to thank my parents, who both had past away last year. I know without their values and love I would never have been inspired to attempt this. Love you mom and dad!

I have spent the past 13 years engaged in a variety of New Westminster community events, via the NWSS Hyack Football program, and developing resources for students to address very specific gaps in their level of engagement in their school. I have seen real change in students with these initiatives. Now it is time for me to take the passion I share for students to the next level, by being directly involved with the school system itself.  That is why I ran for School Board Trustee in New Westminster and fully funding my own campaign and am thrilled to be able to do this as the newly elected Trustee.

Now that I’m elected, I will focus on my 3 key priorities:

  1. To provide complete transparency and accountability for the NWSS new school construction process.
  2. To provide a school bus system for students in Queensborough to and from NWSS.
  3. To provide access to enhanced music programs for all elementary school students in New Westminster

With two young children entering the school system in New Westminster, I want them and all other children to have access to the most comprehensive public education system in British Columbia. The Education experience is critical in creating our future leaders who will go on to inspire others.
